Robert Hawkins Is New Albion-Homer United Way Board Member
Robert Hawkins has recently been named a new board member for the Albion-Homer United Way.
Born and raised in Albion, Hawkins returned to his community as the new Blue Ox Credit Union branch manager and is determined to be a vital part of his hometown. According to Hawkins, “joining the Albion-Homer United Way board helps me get out into the community to make a difference.” He said he has been affiliated with United Way in his past out-of-state positions but always directed his donations back to the Albion-Homer organization.
“I want to have an impact on any board that I serve on,” Hawkins said. “Serving on this United Way board allows me to continue that tradition and have an impact in a new way. “
Prior to returning to Albion Hawkins had been in the financial services industry in Richland, Michigan and San Antonio, Texas. He and his wife Becca Meloy Hawkins, also an Albion native, were in these cities while she served 10 years in the United States Army. The couple has two sons, Braxton, 5 and Monroe, 3. Both are products of Albion Public Schools and have family in town.
AHUW Executive Director Marcia Starkey said she and the board are thrilled that Hawkins is involved in the organization. “Robert will make a great addition to the board by bringing his enthusiasm and desire to serve his community to our local United Way,” Starkey stated.
Hawkins joins board members Carolyn Amos, Donisha Brewer, Chris Burdette, David Diemert, Ryan Hopson, Art Kale, Patrick McLean, Isabell Nazar, Pam Schuler, Gary Tompkins, Eddie Williams and Shane Williamson.
Fund raising for the local organization is on-going and makes it possible to support organizations in Homer and Albion through grants throughout the year. These grants support the mission of the Albion-Homer United Way which is to provide “long-lasting changes that prevent problems from happening” to help community members “live more whole lives-a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support family through retirement, and good health.”
Starkey said there are four good reasons to donate to the Albion-Homer United Way including that donations support Albion and Homer specific programs and that funding decisions are made locally. Donor lists are never shared with other agencies and payroll deductions make donating easier.
Donations can be mailed to AHUW PO Box 55, Albion, MI 49224, made on-line at www.albionhomeruw.org/or by contacting Starkey at 517-499-2563.
