Health & Safety Expo Supported by Albion-Homer United Way Grant
A grant to the Albion Health Care Alliance will help provide information to local families on how to create a safe and healthy environment in their homes. The $1,500 grant from the Albion-Homer United Way provides funds for a Health & Safety Expo on June 12.
Due to the on-going pandemic the event will be a drive-through at the Farmer’s Market in Stoffer Plaza off Erie Street behind downtown. The expo will be from noon to 2 PM. Masks will be required.
According to Rod Auton, Albion Health Card Alliance administrator, the event targets both children and adults. “Auton said “It is important to include all family members because community health and safety involves the support of both children and adults.”
The United Way funding will help purchase 100 bike helmets for kids and 100 first aid kits for adults and parents. In addition the money will also allow the AHCA to buy 75 smoke detectors for parents and 100 hand sanitizers for children and adults.
The AHCA hopes to serve 75-100 families in the community at this annual event. Previously it was called Healthy Babies Day but the health information available has expanded to include children and adults.
The Albion-Homer United Way AHUW Executive Director Marcia Starkey said this grant to help area families be engaged in healthy activities is aligned with the goals of the local United Way. Many of the AHUW grants focus on helping children and families be successful, she said, so they can accomplish future life goals.
To allow the AHUW to continue to support local organizations Starkey said there are several good reasons to donate to the Albion-Homer United Way. These reasons include that donations fund Albion and Homer specific programs and that funding decisions are made locally. Donor lists are never shared with other agencies and payroll deductions make donating easier.
Donations can be mailed to AHUW PO Box 55, Albion, MI 49224, made on-line at www.albionhomeruw.org/ or by contacting Starkey at 517-499-2563.
