Tompkins New Albion-Homer United Way President
Gary Tompkins has stepped up to another volunteer leadership role as the board president of the Albion-Homer United Way.
Tompkins who has been an AHUW board member recently assumed the duties when Shane Williamson became the Albion Community Foundation and Bohm Theatre interim executive directorships.
Currently the Calhoun County 7th District Commissioner, Tompkins is an active volunteer in the Albion area and serves on numerous agency boards and organizations. These include the Forks Senior Center board, Calhoun County Senior Millage Committee chair, Calhoun County Trailways Alliance, Homer Community Schools board of education president and member of the NAACP to name just a few.
Tompkins holds an associate’s degree from Davenport University and a bachelor’s degree from Warren National University. He is also a graduate of the Michigan Political Leadership Program through Michigan State University’s Institute for Public Policy and Social Research.
Marcia Starkey, AHUW executive director said, “Gary is the ideal president for the Albion-Homer United Way board. He is a dedicated community volunteer in Albion and Homer and truly understands how to Live United. The whole board looks forward to working together under his leadership.”
The mission of the AHUW is to provide “long-lasting changes that prevent problems from happening” to help community members “live more whole lives-a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support family through retirement, and good health.”
